Vinted Asks for ID: KYC, Your Balance and What to Send
Rules from Vinted's UK Help Centre, read 21 October 2026.
Vinted's payment providers, VintedPay or Mangopay, must check your identity by law to run your Balance. If you skip it, the Balance can't pay for items and withdrawals stop until you finish. A separate purchase verification asks you to prove a payment is yours within 24 hours.

Vinted asks sellers for ID because the payment provider behind the Vinted Balance, VintedPay or Mangopay, must run a Know Your Customer (KYC) check by law. If you do not complete it, the provider can suspend your Balance and block withdrawals until you do. A separate purchase verification asks you to prove a payment is yours, and Vinted says to answer it within 24 hours.
Why does Vinted ask me for ID?
Vinted says its payment service providers, VintedPay or Mangopay, ask for personal data to verify your identity as part of a Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) check while you use your Vinted Balance. It describes this as a legally required procedure against fraud and money laundering. The provider collects the data the first time you activate your Balance and again periodically, sometimes every few years or when a document is about to expire.
The check usually means reviewing the details you gave when you activated the Balance and uploading photos of certain documents and/or yourself through a secure form. Vinted says it does not store or have access to those documents: they go straight to the provider. If you may be a politically exposed person, Vinted says you may have to give further information.
What happens to my Balance if I do not complete the check?
Vinted says the provider can suspend access to your Balance until the KYC check is complete. The Balance becomes unavailable as a payment method and withdrawals are prevented. Providing the information requested lifts the restriction.
Vinted adds a warning: submitting suspicious or fake documents can lead to withdrawals being permanently blocked or the account being banned. Its pages do not say how long a check takes to review, so do not count on a payout date while one is open; see when Vinted pays you. If your account is already banned, see what you can still do with the Balance in our guide to what to do when a Vinted account is banned.
Do Pro sellers go through the same check?
Vinted says KYB applies to Pro sellers as well, and that what you must provide depends on your business type: sole trader, non-profit organisation or company. It also notes that Vinted Pay currently supports identity verification for individuals only, so you may be asked to complete a KYC check to verify your identity.
If you are unsure whether your selling counts as private or business, read the Vinted Pro rule before you list more stock.
Why does my bank ask me to confirm a Vinted payment or withdrawal?
That is payment authentication, which is separate from KYC. Vinted says the payment provider may ask you to authenticate when you open your Balance or transaction history, pay for an item or withdraw earnings, or change details such as your withdrawal bank account, email or phone number. The method depends on your bank and the provider: a device PIN or password, an SMS code, a hardware token, or fingerprint or face recognition.
Vinted says the Strong Customer Authentication rule in the European Economic Area requires it, so it cannot be turned off. If you cannot complete it, the action can be declined. Vinted suggests keeping your contact details at your bank correct and notes that Apple Pay, where available, has built-in authentication. Google Pay does too, though your bank may still ask for more.
What does the purchase verification ask for?
Purchase verification confirms that a payment was really made by you. Vinted sends a message with a secure link asking for one of two things. The first is a photo or screenshot of a bank statement showing the latest Vinted charge or withdrawal: your full name matching the name on your Balance, your bank account number, the date and the amount. The second is a photo of the payment card you used: holder and issuer name, card type, last 4 digits and expiry, with a handwritten note showing your Vinted username and the date.
Vinted says to cover anything not on its list, and that the CVV/CVC and the other card digits are not needed. It says to verify within 24 hours of the notice, or it may have to suspend your account, and that in some cases it suspends the account right after sending the request.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Vinted KYC check a scam?
Vinted says it is a legal requirement carried out by its payment providers, VintedPay or Mangopay, and that it does not store the documents. Open the request from inside your Vinted account or app rather than from a link in an unexpected message.
Does Vinted keep my ID documents?
Vinted says it does not store or have access to the documents you provide for KYC. They go directly to the payment service provider.
How often will I be asked to verify again?
Vinted says the provider collects data periodically, sometimes every few years or when one of your documents is expiring.
How long do I have to answer a purchase verification?
Vinted says 24 hours after it notifies you, otherwise it may suspend your account.
