How to start reselling (on Vinted, eBay, Depop…) in 2026: what to buy first and the most to pay

To start reselling, set a small budget, pick two or three categories, check every item before you buy it, and never pay more than its maximum buy price. Then list it honestly and track what each item really cost. The live list below shows this week's BUY items with that maximum price.

The 5-step start

  1. Set a budget you can leave in stock. Start small, for example €50 to €100 split over three to five items. Money you can leave tied up for a few weeks means you never have to sell at a bad price just to get cash back, and one wrong buy cannot stop you.
  2. Pick two or three categories. Sneakers, jackets, hoodies: choose the few categories you already understand. Stay narrow for the first weeks. You learn what a normal price looks like for each model, and that is most of the skill.
  3. Check before you buy. Before you pay for anything, look up the model: its typical asking range, whether it is a BUY or a WATCH, and the most to pay. The rule is simple: at or below the maximum buy price, or you leave it. Free Vinted price checker →
  4. List it honestly. Clear photos, the real size and condition, a title with the brand and model, and a price inside the typical asking range. Fees differ between Vinted, eBay and Depop, so work out the fee on your item before you pick where to list. Fee calculators by platform →
  5. Track the real cost of every item. Write down what you paid, the fees, the shipping and the price it left at. Profit per item is what is left after those. Without this record you cannot tell which buys work and which only look cheap. Free profit tracker →

Beginner reselling FAQ

How much money do I need to start reselling?

There is no fixed minimum. A small budget such as €50 to €100, split over three to five items, is enough to learn how prices and speed work. What protects you is paying at or below the maximum buy price, not the size of the budget.

What should a beginner buy first to resell?

Start with models in a category you know where many listings are leaving the shelf compared with how many are online, like the BUY items above. Check each one before paying, and avoid starting with the single most famous model.

How do I know the most I should pay for an item?

Work backwards from the typical asking range: take off the platform fee, the shipping and the margin you want. Resale IQ does this for you. Its maximum buy price is set at roughly 70% of the typical price so fees, shipping and a slow week still fit.

Is this sold-price data?

No. Resale IQ shows asking prices and observed departures. A departure is a listing we saw leave the shelf; it can mean a sale, but also a deleted or hidden listing, so we do not call it a sale. See the methodology page for how we measure.

Can I make money reselling as a beginner?

Nobody can promise that. Results depend on what you buy, what you pay, the fees and how quickly items leave. Resale IQ helps you avoid overpaying with real asking prices and departures. It does not guarantee a profit.
