What changed
eBay has added notices to several of its seller fee pages saying the seller currency conversion charge is going up this winter. The charge applies when eBay converts your funds into another currency, for example to collect a listing fee on a different country's eBay site, or to pay out money you earned there.
The French and Italian pages are the most precise. Both say that for sellers whose registered address is in the country, the charge is currently 3%. Both then say that from 2 December 2026 it rises to 3.25%. That is a quarter of a percentage point, or 0.25 euros extra for every 100 euros converted.
The UK page is less complete. It says that from 1 December 2026 the charge will increase, but it does not give the new rate for UK-registered sellers. The same page lists the current rate for UK-registered sellers as 2.5%. It also says that from 1 December 2026 the fee for sellers registered in the US will increase to 2.75%. We did not check the US page itself.
The UK page carries a last-updated date of 30 September 2026. The French and Italian pages show no date for the notice, so the date on those sources is the day we read them, 6 October 2026.
Who is hit? Only sellers whose funds eBay converts. The pages describe the charge as applying when eBay converts your funds for an item listed or completed on another eBay site. Sellers who stay on their home site should check whether it applies to them.
We have not verified the rates for other countries, including Germany and Spain. Each country's fee page sets its own figure, and the pages tell sellers outside a country to check their own country's page.
Who it affects
Sellers registered in France or Italy who list on other eBay sites will pay 0.25 percentage points more on each converted amount from 2 December 2026. UK-registered sellers face a rise from 1 December, but eBay has not stated the new rate. Sellers whose funds are never converted are not described as affected.
What to do
- Open your own country's eBay fee page and read the currency conversion section; do not rely on the French, Italian or UK figures if your address is elsewhere.
- If you list on other eBay sites, add the new rate to your cost per item before 1 December so your price floor still covers it.
- Re-check the UK page before December: the new UK rate is not stated yet.
