eBay completes its acquisition of Depop
eBay closed the Depop deal on 30 July 2026. Both companies say Depop will keep its own brand and platform, and neither has announced a fee or policy change for sellers.
What changed
eBay Inc. announced on 30 July 2026 that it has completed its purchase of Depop, the fashion marketplace popular with Gen Z and Millennial buyers. The announcement appears on Depop's own newsroom.
The money details come from eBay's second-quarter results. They say eBay and Etsy announced the agreement in February 2026, with eBay to acquire all of Depop's equity for $1.2 billion in cash, subject to purchase price adjustments. The deal closed on 30 July, and eBay reports it paid $1.4 billion in cash including preliminary adjustments, which remain subject to finalisation.
For sellers, the part that matters is what both sides say about the future. eBay says Depop will operate as a complementary business and keep its distinct brand, platform, customer experience and culture. In the release, eBay's chief executive Jamie Iannone says the goal is to preserve Depop's brand, community and product experience while exploring synergies. Depop's chief executive Peter Semple is quoted saying that Depop 'is a natural fit with eBay'.
The release also lists areas where eBay says it can help Depop grow: shipping, personalisation, compliance and trusted services. That is a statement of intent. It names no product launch, no date, and no change to Depop's selling fees, buyer protection or seller rules.
We checked the Depop newsroom and eBay's results release for any seller-facing change linked to the deal and found none at the time of writing. eBay's third-quarter outlook includes the expected impact from Depop, so the business is now inside eBay's reported numbers.
In short: ownership changed on 30 July, your Depop shop did not. Anything that does change for sellers should show up in Depop's own help centre and seller communications before it applies.
Who it affects
Depop sellers see no announced change to fees or rules today. Sellers who list on both Depop and eBay may eventually see shared tools, but nothing of that kind is announced. The deal mainly matters as a signal of where C2C fashion resale is heading.
What to do
- Keep selling on Depop as normal; no action is required because of the deal.
- Watch Depop's help centre and email for fee, shipping or policy notices, and treat anything claiming 'new eBay rules for Depop' without a Depop or eBay source as unverified.
- If you cross-list, recheck your net payout on each platform separately, since the two fee schedules remain separate.
