Etsy redesigns the Payment account: new balance view and reserves inside 'pending'
Etsy's 8 September 2026 Seller Handbook post says balances now show as Current, Pending and Total, reserves sit inside Pending, and sale fees stay pending until the sale's earnings are available.
What changed
Etsy published a Seller Handbook article on 8 September 2026 describing updates to the Payment account, the page where sellers see their balance and payouts. Some changes are live and more are promised over the next few months.
Live now: the balance is shown in three parts. Current is money available now, or already applied to fees, refunds or billing. Pending is money still processing or held in reserve. Total is the two added together. A new 'Ready for Deposit' module separates two things that used to blur: payout timing, meaning when money becomes available, and deposit health, meaning whether the account can receive a deposit at all. If something blocks a deposit, the module shows it and, where relevant, how to fix it.
Reserves change the most. Reserve amounts are now part of Pending, and the standalone reserve module is gone. Sellers can hover over Pending and pick 'In reserve' to see which sales are held. The reserve minimum is retired. Details such as when reserved funds become available and when Etsy will re-evaluate the account moved to a side panel.
Two behaviours deserve attention. Your Current balance can now be negative, for instance when refunds or real-time fees such as Etsy Ads or postage labels exceed the earnings currently available. And fees tied to a sale, meaning the payment processing fee and the transaction fee, now stay pending until that sale's earnings become available, so they do not reduce your available-for-deposit balance early. Fees not tied to a sale, such as Etsy Ads, postage labels, listing fees and subscriptions, still deduct in real time.
Etsy lists two things as coming soon: transaction history split into total, current and pending tabs, and each sale shown as one expandable line with its fees underneath.
Etsy does not say these changes alter the amounts it charges. The article describes presentation and timing of money, not new fee rates.
Who it affects
All Etsy sellers who use Etsy Payments see the new layout. Sellers who have had a reserve, or who run Etsy Ads and buy postage labels, should notice the biggest differences, including a possible negative Current balance.
What to do
- Open the Payment account and learn the Current, Pending and Total split before your next payout.
- If you have a reserve, check the side panel for the release date and re-evaluation date.
- Do not read a negative Current balance as debt: Etsy says it reflects that moment and updates as pending funds become current.
- Update any bookkeeping that tied fees to payout dates, since sale fees now settle with the sale's earnings.
