Photo tips for eBay listings
- eBay recommends at least 500 px on the longest side and suggests 1600 px so buyers can zoom. The export here is 1600 px.
- A plain white background on the main photo is widely preferred and some categories ask for it, so check your category's photo rules before you list.
- Show the real item: keep extra photos for labels, flaws and measurements, and use the cut-out only on the main image where it is allowed.
Why clean listing photos matter
Buyers decide in a second from the first photo. A tidy, evenly lit picture with the item centred makes the piece easy to read, and a plain white or light-grey background keeps attention on the garment instead of the bed, the floor or the clutter behind it.
Most marketplaces crop thumbnails to a fixed shape. If the item sits off-centre or too close to the edge, the preview cuts it off. Centring with a margin on a square or 4:5 canvas means the whole item shows in the feed and in search.

Does eBay require a white background?
Not for every category. A plain white or light background is commonly recommended for the main photo and some categories have specific requirements, so read eBay's current photo policy for your category. This tool makes the white background quick; it does not change what is true about the item.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole tool runs inside your browser. Your photos are never sent to our servers or to anyone else. The background-removal model is downloaded to your device once and runs locally.
Is it really free?

How good is the background removal on clothing?
It is a small on-device model, built to be fast on a phone. It works best on a single item against a plain or moderately busy background: coats, tops, bags, shoes. It can struggle with very thin straps, sheer fabric or items that match the background colour. Check the result and turn the option off for a photo if the edges look wrong.
What size are the downloaded photos?
Square crops come out at 1600 x 1600 pixels and 4:5 crops at 1280 x 1600 pixels, saved as JPEG. That is large enough for zoom on eBay, Vinted, Depop and Poshmark while keeping files small enough to upload fast on mobile data.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, on current Safari and Chrome. The first Remove background tap downloads the model (about 19 MB in total) and takes a few seconds; after that it is cached by your browser. Processing a photo takes roughly one to five seconds depending on the phone.
What does the auto-fix change?
It stretches the tonal range so the darkest and brightest parts use the full scale, and nudges overall brightness toward a natural mid-tone. It is deliberately gentle: a photo that is already well exposed is left almost unchanged. It does not change colours, so the item still matches what the buyer receives.
